Apple awards announced today that they would be awarding a whopping $200 million to funding new innovations at Corning. For those who don’t know about the relationship between Apple and Corning, Corning is the manufacturer or Gorilla Glass and most of the glass screens as of the last few years that are used in iPads, iPhones, Macbooks and more. The funds will be going towards pushing more innovation in the area of screen manufacturing technology which is proudly done by Corning within the United States (as opposed to outside the border like in China and Taiwan for example). Quoted from Apple’s press release “investing further with Corning who has such a rich legacy of innovative manufacturing practices.” In other words Apple is not only happy with the progress that Corning has made with building glass for Apple products but they’re also funding the company further to see if more innovations can be made in the area of glass screen technology.

Why is glass screen technology so important to Apple?

Well, besides the fact that it covers the face of most Apple products including iPhones, iPads, Macbooks, and even Apple Watches, the glass technology also backs up the “digitize” technology that allows users to interact with the products using their fingers through touch based technology. In addition to this, the screens have come a long way in durability. That is to say that cracked glass replacement is by far the most common repair for iPhones, iPads, and many other Apple products over several generations of manufacturing. This technology is also critical to the lifespan of computer and cell phone repair companies like Zombie Techs in Schaumburg that fixes and repairs smartphones and macbooks and supports the whole Northwest Suburbs with quality repairs including cracked glass replacement in Palatine and Rolling Meadows.
